Stop Wars | Hand-painted denim jacket | Upcycling

project type

Hand-painted denim jacket | Upcycling

Date

April 2023

I bought this denim jacket at a time when news about events in the world was coming thick and fast. At least that's how it seemed to me at the time, because news about wars and suffering in the world was not rare before, and it is certainly not getting any less now.
I wanted to make a statement, a jacket that calls for more peace. I myself also wear many motifs and statements that reflect my attitude, my humor - myself, and when you do that, you experience how much attention we receive from our fellow human beings.
We all know it, you are out and about and observe the people around you, and so do others. Incredibly beautiful moments, conversations, even friendships have already arisen by starting conversations about clothing and possible statements.

So this jacket should also be given a second chance. After I bought it second-hand, I examined and cleaned it and found it to be in perfect condition.
A stroke of luck and a free opportunity for me.
A statement should adorn the jacket, in keeping with the above line of thought.
Stop Wars - because the call for "peace" is perhaps not imperative enough.
But not just the lettering, there should also be some motif to go with it, after all I design and paint everything by hand and that's how it should have an effect.

So I painted the motif with chalk and decided to keep it simple, because the statement "Stop Wars" should be the focus.
This is how this hand-painted denim jacket came about, colored with textile paints and fixed with heat.
